Last Friday we took Lovebug and Lulu to their first ever theater experience. We saw “Up”, and it was really cute, despite some scenes that were kind of intense for a two year old.
I don’t think Lovebug moved a muscle during the ENTIRE movie! He sat completely still except during the aforementioned scary scenes when he wanted Daddy or Mommy to hold him. Of course we didn’t mind- we enjoyed every minute. He sat in his seat otherwise, his little body not even heavy enough to keep the seat from folding up. He eyes were completely glued to the screen while his jaw rested on his lap. It was awesome!
I even think LuLu had a good time. She went back and forth between Daddy and I, eating a LARGE bag of cheerios and some melon left over from our dinner at family friendly Perkins, lol. She was only a tad fidgety, and didn’t cry at all!
Overall, it was a wonderful evening. One of the best things about being a parent is getting to experience the world through the eyes of a child. We tend to forget how magical everything was when we were kids. When I saw my son mesmerized by a big screen with cartoon characters, it made me feel so full inside. I loved seeing him happy and excited, and loved knowing something we did gave him that happiness. The cool thing is that a movie is just a small, small thing in the scope of my kids’ lives. Lord willing, there will be many more things we will have the privilege of experiencing with each of them for the first time, and many more gifts we will give them that will bring them happiness.
This night has left me thinking about and praising God for his gifts to me. I am reminded of the verse “If you then, being evil, know how to give good gifts unto your children, how much more shall your Father which is in heaven give good things to them that ask him?” Matt 7:11. The ability to even have these moments with my husband and children is one of God’s good gifts to me. I remember specifically asking God for my husband, and then together, us begging God for children. And now, here they are… two precious little human beings that have the ability to choose to know God because of the greatest gift anyone has ever given… Jesus Christ.
“For by grace are you saved, through faith, it is the gift of God, not a result works, so that no one can boast.” Ephesians 2:8-9
“For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.” Romans 6:23
“For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life. For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but in order that the world might be saved through him.” John 3:16-17
Now, that is magical….
