Super Savings Saturday 10/10 October 10, 2009

This week I took advantage of Meijer’s brand sale.  I used two mealbox coupons, but only one manufacturer’s coupon for the Clorox.  Overall I think I did pretty well.  I was shopping not only for our family, but I am cooking for 15 on Sunday, so I had to buy things to make chili, cornbread, and caramel corn to feed a crowd.   I was underbudget last week, and only $15 over this week with the additional cost of the meal for tomorrow, so I think it will even out over the month.

Here are the results:

Total: $65.84

Saved: $47.07   Thats 42%!!!

The total would have been $74.59, but I used a $10 gift card I received for transferring a prescription to Meijer.

Although it wasn’t a great week for savings, I still stocked up on things we use often, and was able to purchase food for tomorrow without breaking the bank.  I think that by buying during sales and stockpiling, my cost to make the food will be around $1.50 per person for dinner, dessert, and drinks.

It just goes to show you can shop smart and still save without using gobs of coupons!  For more information and a little help to get started check this out!

I Don’t Have Time To Cut Coupons! October 5, 2009

If I have heard it once, I have heard it a thousand times…

Several months ago while in Walgreens, a lady in front of me was trying to use a rebate advertisement as a coupon.  The cashier explained to her that she had to send in for the rebate and she said, “Who has time to do that?”  I understood that it was a rhetorical question, but I enthusiastically answered that it was very easy to do and it would save her a good chunk of money.   She looked at my stash of coupons and replied, “It’s great that you have time to cut coupons, but I just don’t. . . I have a job.” Besides the insulting inference that raising children is not working and that I don’t have anything better to do, it is a fact that anyone has the time to do anything they want to do, they just have to choose to make time to do it.   There have been periods of my life where it has not been worth my time or energy to coupon, but in this season it definitely is.  And the truth is, I like to do it.

BUT, because I know many of my readers are either in a busy season, find it overwhelming, or just frankly don’t like to coupon, I have decided to start a new feature on my blog dedicated to them.  I am so excited to introduce it, so make sure to stop back by tomorrow to check it out!

Bigg’s Triple Coupon Matchups! September 30, 2009

I’m finally back after my organizing hiatus!  You can take at look at what I’ve been doing here.  I am going to post the “After” pics tomorrow.  Make sure to stop by and see the finished product!  🙂

I am sure if you live in the Cincinnati area, you are mega excited over the Bigg’s triple coupon days! It starts Friday at 10:oo and continues through Monday.  Unfortunately, I am not going to be going to Bigg’s because I am having an emergency garage sale to get rid of all the stuff I cleaned out. 😦

I am so impressed by LittleMissKnowItAll ‘s matchups that I have to send you there.  It is unbelievable all of the good deals her team found!  Apparently they have been preparing extensively for this sale.  While you are there, make sure to browse around and check out the site!

I am so excited to see how everyone does!  Please leave your link in the comments so others can see what you snagged!

Super Savings Saturday (a little late) September 21, 2009

Sooo, this post is a little tardy but I am participating in the Super Saturday Savings feature at Money Saving Mom.

Each week on Domestically Dunn I will post my grocery trip(s).  I will include pictures and highlight my best deals with the percentage saved.  Hopefully, this will be encouraging to see how coupons can definitely be worth the time.

Soon, I will be starting a series outlining how you can get started saving.  Hint… the first step is to get all the coupon inserts you can get your hands on!

Saturday (9/19) my newlywed friend Holly and I had a blast at Meijer.  She is new to couponing and was tagging along to learn and keep me company.  Here are the results:

Total Paid:  $50.63

Total Saved:  $114.18

Saved: 69%

Some of the best deals were the Nabisco 100 Calorie Snacks ($.62 for the total of 5 boxes), Aunt Jemima Pancake mix ($.50/box), DiGiorno Flatbread Melts ($1.00 for 2 boxes), General Mills Cereal (6 boxes for $2.29 total), and finally the Kool Aid Singles.  We don’t use Kool-Aid around our house but I got paid $7 dollars to buy them, so I guess I will figure out something to do with them. 🙂

If you are wondering how in the world I am doing this, don’t worry… I will be sharing the info soon!

Kmart Double Coupons

Hey I just got word from a lady in my Mom’s club that KMart will be doubling coupons up to $2 starting 9/27.  What does that mean?  Well, any coupon you have with a face value up to 2$ will be double to up to $4.

So $1.50 will be $3, $.50 will be $1, etc.

They do not double coupons over $2, and there normally is a limit of coupons you can use in one day.  When I find out, I will update this post.

Some of the best bargains with this sale are the Vaseline Lotions, shampoos, and daipers (especially if you get those Huggies mailers with the $2 off coupon in them).  Really, if you have any high value coupons, it would be worth  checking out to see if you can snag a deal.

Just a bit of advice… GO EARLY.  Kmart tends to run out of stuff VERY quickly.  I have been later in the week, and at that point it really wasn’t worth my time to go.

Make sure to check and make sure your local Kmart is participating in this event before you go.  Sometimes not all locations will do this.

Let me know what you plan to get or link up your ideas!
